Work has begun at two dangerous bridges at Cloondhamper, Lavally and Laughil, Clonberne.
Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has confirmed that work on the bridges has commenced following a long period of planning.
Minister Canney said: “Local people and motorists have been highlighting these very narrow and dangerous bridges for a long time.
“Funding was allocated under the bridges programme and Galway County Council has commenced works in recent weeks.
“When completed this project will deliver safe access for motorists and pedestrians using these very busy roads.
“I want to acknowledge the efforts of Galway County Council and the patience shown by residents over the years.”
