I have received confirmation that the Department of Transport have allocated funding of €39.93 million to Galway County Council for the maintenance and improvements to the Counties Local and Regional roads for 2024.
This allocation last year’s allocation and it includes an allocation of €500,000.00 towards the realignment of the Kilbannon road and €1.6million towards the Athenry Inner Relief Road. Both projects need to be progressed as a matter of urgency as they are in the planning and design stage for many years.
“I am disappointed that there is no allocation of funding to kick start the commencement of the Inner Relief Road in Tuam and I am urging the Council to make a submission for funding for this vital project the help develop further opportunities for economic growth in Tuam.
I commend the staff in the Local Area Offices for their efforts in securing this funding and hopefully we will see this money being put to good use across the County.”
