I have been informed by the Minister for Housing, Local Government & Heritage that substantial changes in the current exemption thresholds for solar panels are being proposed, including the introduction of new classes of solar panel planning exemptions relating to their use in apartments and in educational community and religious buildings.
The new regulations are expected to be brought before the Oireachtas in early 2022.
“It is important for people who wish to become involved in microgeneration that they are supported in every way possible. By making such projects exempt from planning it will save on cost and time as we move towards a greener energy supply”.
“It is also important that schools, community facilities and churches are utilised for microgeneration”.
“I look forward to this issue coming before the Oireachtas so that the regulation can be enacted without any further delay”.
Welcome proposed changes to Planning Regulations for micro generation
