I have received confirmation that the HSE are progressing two major health facilities in Tuam.
“The Community Nursing facility is tendered, and the successful contractor is expected to commence construction in March 2021”.
“This new 50 bed community nursing facility is to be located beside the new Primary Care Unit. This building will replace the existing Arus Mhuire facility which HIQA have deemed not to be fit for purpose. Joe O’Toole left a donation of €7 million towards this project”.
“Separately, the tender for the refurbishment of the old Grove Hospital building is bring issued this week. The project includes the conversion for the building into a Mental Health Day Hospital and a Disability Services Unit. Presently some enabling works are being carried out including asbestos removal in preparation for the commencement of the project”.
The main contractor for this project is expected to be appointed by May / June 2021.
These two projects represent a further total investment in public heath care for Tuam and North Galway in excess of €30 million.
“I will continue to keep progress under review to ensure early delivery of these projects”.
Welcome progress on Tuam Health Campus
