There will be a Community Meeting at Tuam Library on Wednesday January 8 at 6.30pm about the Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture Opening Event in Tuam on February 4.
I would encourage everyone interested to attend to find out how they can get involved.
Rehearsals for those directly taking part in the event have been held at St Jarlath’s College, Final rehearsals will be held at the college on February 1 from 5pm to 7pm and February 4 at 6pm before the event on the night.
Opening event celebrations will start in Clifden on February 2 and will continue at various locations for seven consecutive nights, including Tuam, Portumna and Athenry.
The county events will culminate in a finale involving all participants on the streets of Galway City on the evening of Saturday February 8.
Specific roles for community cast members include percussionists, chanters, turf bearers, fire carriers, fire
makers and support staff.
