Three Galway East projects are to receive a total of €47,920 from the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme administered by my department, the Department of Community and Rural Development.
Gort River Walk Development Group and Gort Tidy Towns are to receive €19,760 for the development of a river bank walk in the centre of the town.
Sliabh Aughty Walking Trails has been allocated €10,000 towards the cost of developing walking trails, while Corofin Community Development Association (CCDA) has been awarded €18,160 towards the development of a walking route linking the village to the community amenity space and playground.
I congratulate the three groups for their efforts in preparing their successful applications.
The funding will assist in creating outdoor recreation facilities in their communities for the benefit of all.
I also want to thank my ministerial colleague, Minister Michael Ring TD and officials in the Department of Rural and Community Development for their support in awarding these grants under Measure 1 of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
Measure 2 applications for larger projects under the scheme are still being assessed.
