Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has announced three Galway East projects are to receive a total of €47,920 from the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme administered by his department, the Department of Community and Rural Development.
Gort River Walk Development Group and Gort Tidy Towns are to receive €19,760 for the development of a river bank walk in the centre of the town.
Sliabh Aughty Walking Trails has been allocated €10,000 towards the cost of developing walking trails, while Corofin Community Development Association (CCDA) has been awarded €18,160 towards the development of a walking route linking the village to the community amenity space and playground.
Minister Canney said: “I congratulate the three groups for their efforts in preparing their successful applications.
“The funding will assist in creating outdoor recreation facilities in their communities for the benefit of all.
“I also want to thank my ministerial colleague, Minister Michael Ring TD and officials in the Department of Rural and Community Development for their support in awarding these grants under Measure 1 of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.”
Measure 2 applications for larger projects under the scheme are still being assessed.
