The Government has announced an investment package of €4.2 million in sports and physical activity funding, including awards for Galway Local Sports Partnership.
The funding announced by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport comes from the Dormant Accounts Fund, which is administered my department, the Department of Rural and Community Development.
Galway Local Sports Partnership will receive €52,460 for a variety of activities including youth leadership training, volunteer training and supports and the Ballybane/Doughiska Sports and Physicial Activity Hub.
There are also national initiatives around promoting sporting integrity, research projects and awareness campaigns.
Support is also being given to activity campaigns such as Get Ireland Running, Get Ireland Cycling and Get Ireland Walking and to sports bodies for projects to help people with disabilities, including the GAA.
It is great to see the Dormant Accounts Fund being used to support communities throughout Ireland.
The funding allows Local Sports Partnerships and national governing bodies of sport and other funded bodies to invest in a whole range of initiatives, particularly those that offer greater opportunities for young people to engage in sport and physical activity.
