A community consultation workshop will be held on the Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS) at the Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe on Saturday January 11 between 9.30am and 2pm.
There is a public consultation on the draft terms and conditions for the RESS, which is an auction-based scheme that invites renewable electricity projects to bid for capacity and receive a guaranteed price for the electricity they generate.
My department, the Department for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment, is co-funding the event which is being run in association with the Western Development Commission and the Tipperary Energy Agency.
The workshop will discuss the 4 Key Community Pillars proposed under the scheme:
COMMUNITY LED RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECTS
•A separate community category in auctions
•An enabling framework for community energy projects with a range of supports
DEVELOPER LED RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECTS
•A mandatory community benefit fund
•A mandatory community investment offering
