I welcome progress to-date on the refurbishment of the old library on Shop Street Tuam.
The building which is owned by Galway County Council and has been leased to the Department of Social Protection for use as an Intro Centre.
The works are being managed by the Office of Public Works (OPW) and the main contractor in Finnia Construction”.
“The investment of €2.6 million is a major boost for Tuam and North Galway. It also will bring back in use a public building in the centre of the town”.
“It will also bring together social welfare services under one roof”.
“The building has been closed since the library relocated to its new home in the Council offices in Shop Street in 2009”.
“I have worked closely with Galway County Council and the Office of Public Works to ensure that funding was made available for the project”.
“I expect that works which are ongoing will be complete by October this year. I look forward to this former bank building coming back in use in the centre of Tuam”.
