I have received confirmation that the tender process has begun to appoint a building contractor for the new Tuam Mental Health Day Centre.
The centre will be constructed at the site of the Old Grove Hospital in Vicar Street.
The notification to building contractors to apply for pre-qualification to tender is posted on e-tenders.
This is the commencement stage of the tender process and marks a very important milestone in the redevelopment of the Old Grove site.
It follows on from the inclusion of the project in the Health Service Executive’s Capital Plan for 2019-2021 that was published last year.
When completed, the project will bring the former hospital building back into use for healthcare services.
It will also rejuvenate an important town centre building, along with bringing healthcare services back into the centre of Tuam.
There are also plans to use part of the building for disability services and I have worked closely with Minister Finian McGrath on this project.
