The final report on the Kilreekil Group Water Scheme has been received by Galway County Council and submitted to the Department of Housing and Local Government.
Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney said: “I welcome the progress that has been made now that the design phase is over and I look forward to the tender process beginning so that this long overdue scheme can go ahead.
“Households have been campaigning to have a proper water supply for the last 40 years.
“Thankfully the decision by Cappataggle Group Water Scheme last year to supply water to Kilreekil will mean the long suffering residents and farmers have an end in sight.
“The works should move to construction by mid 2020. When completed, people living in the area will fulfill their right to a clean and safe supply of drinking water.”
