Progress is being made towards the opening of the new Clarin College facility in Athenry following a delay caused by issues around pedestrian access.
That is according to Galway East TD Seán Canney.
Deputy Canney said: “I have been informed that a temporary solution will be in place for the return to school that is anticipated for September.
“The opening of the school’s new facility has been on hold pending a solution being found for its pedestrian access.
“I acknowledge the work of Galway County Council and local Councillor Gabe Cronnelly in securing a solution to the problem.
“I have also been informed that a safety audit has been carried out at the Raheen Woods entrance to the Presentation College in Athenry.
“The findings of this audit have been forwarded to the National Development Finance Agency, which manages school projects on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills.
“The NDFA is to review the findings and commission the works required to ensure the safety of pupils and local people.”
