Residents at Garrai Glas estate in Athenry could soon be benefiting from new works to provide safer access to the Tuam Road for both drivers and pedestrians.
I have received confirmation from Galway County Council that it has made an application for additional funding for the project to the Department of Transport under the Community Involvement Scheme.
The works include setting back boundary walls and installing a footpath to link existing footpaths along the Tuam Road.
The works when completed will improve sight lines for residents of Garrai Glas estate at the exit onto the Tuam Road.
I want to acknowledge the work of former Cllr Peter Feeney who allocated notice of motion money towards the cost of the project and the ongoing support of Cllr Gabe Cronnelly.
The project will provide safer access for the residents and an uninterrupted continuous footpath along the Tuam Road for the benefit of pedestrians.
