Emergency roof works at Craughwell National School are to go to tender with the works expected to be carried out during the mid-term break, according to Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney.
Minister Canney said: “The work is being procured by the Office of Public Works via its Galway Regional Office.
“Work on the design for the school’s major extension is also progressing following my meeting with the design team and the Board of Management last July, along with representations made by Cllr Geraldine Donohue.
“I have received confirmation that the tender documents will be ready to submit to the Department of Education for approval by mid-December this year.
“The Office of Public Works will, once the Department of Education approve the tender document, issue the tender for the project.
“It is evident that there is now a serious focus on timelines to deliver this very important project to the community in Craughwell.”
The school’s full project consists of a two-storey extension of 1,628 sq metres to the existing school that will replace prefab classrooms.
It will include eight classrooms, a general purpose sports hall, a multi-purpose room, offices for administration and the principal, a lift, toilets, car parking and a drop-off and pick-up area.
