I have called on the Government to immediately fully implement a commitment to deliver all Government services through the 900-post office network in this country.

“In 2020 Grant Thornton estimated that state funding to the level of €17 million was required to keep the network functional”.

“The 900 post offices bring economic and social value into local communities of between €344 million and €776 million”

An open post office generates huge footfall in towns and villages and provides a safe and trusted environment to do business and enhance social cohesion

“We cannot leave people behind in the digital and on-line age and the post office networks is ideally placed to provide of Government services off-line. It is time for Government to deliver this off-line service through the post office network”.

“Government need to introduce a State backed funding model to ensure certainty to the 900 post offices and the local communities they serve”.
