National Transport Authority commit to a review of the public transport services from Headford to Galway along the N84.
I facilitated a meeting between Headford and District Association (HaDA) and the National Transport Authority (NTA) to discuss the findings of the research and surveys carried out by the HaDA into the lack of public transport services, Park and Ride facilities, Bus Stops, Bus Shelters, frequency of bus services along the N84 from Shrule through Headford to Galway.
The Association set out the facts as they exist on the ground clearly demonstrating the need for an urgent review by the NTA.
The NTA delegation was led by Hugh Creegan and Conor O Donavan who listened to the very comprehensive report as presented and committed to a review of the services and the issues raised.
“I believe that major new thinking needs to be applied to the issue of Public Transport so that public transport becomes the preferred choice for all ages to commute to the city.
An upgrade of the N84 is essential and a dedicated bus lane is essential to achieve a public transport system which is workable and gives a good experience to commuters. Proper bus stops complete with bus shelters is also a requirement.
I commend the Headford and District Association for their work and I also acknowledge the support of local councillors Andrew Reddington and Mary Hoade in highlighting the very important issue in the Headford area”.
