Sean Canney Independent TD has welcomed plans by Waterways Ireland to enhance the tourism offer for Meelick.
Following on from the completion of the Weir Walkway over the River Shannon and the success of the project Waterways Ireland have informed me that plans are in train to develop Martello Tower as a tourism attraction, and they are currently advancing concepts and plans for this project.
With the success of the walkway as a unique walkway linking Counties Galway and Offaly there is a demand for public toilet facilities and plans are also being developed for this facility.
The Lock House in Victoria is also another unique attraction, and it is expected that this building with also be further enhanced through the upgrade of that building.
I welcome the commitment by Waterways Ireland to the region and their vision to enhance the Tourism potential along our inland waterways.
