A new clinical director has been appointed and 11 new staff nurses have been approved to bring St Brendan’s Community Nursing Unit in Loughrea back to full capacity following bed closures
Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney said he had received confirmation of the appointments from the Health Service Executive, adding that two ward managers had also been approved along with additional care assistants.
Minister Canney said: “I received confirmation from the HSE that a new clinical director has been appointed within the last 24 hours.
“I am delighted that there will be a new management team in place. I raised the issue of bed closures at the unit as an urgent matter with the Minister for Health Simon Harris.
“Operating at less than full capacity is not acceptable but I am now satisfied that the unit be fully operative again.
“When public money goes into a public facility, there needs to be a proper management structure to deliver on patient care because that is the priority.”
