I have some good news for children’s playgrounds and recreational facilities in Galway East.
The Department for Children and Youth Affairs has increased Capital Grant Funding provided to local authorities from €250,000 to €450,000 for 2019.
Local authorities applied for funding on behalf of projects under the Capital Grants Scheme for Play and Recreation this year for up to €30,000.
The purpose of the scheme is to fund the refurbishment of play and recreational facilities, which are vital for the physical and mental development of our young people.
This includes new equipment, the development of natural play areas and the refurbishment of existing play facilities.
Further information on the fund can be obtained from Galway County Council.
Successful applications will be supported with an additional 25% of the awarded amount from the County Council.
One of the criteria for funding is that the facility must be accessible to all children.
