Tuam Stadium is to receive €89,717 under the regional allocation of Sports Capital Grants.
This brings Sports Capital Grant funding for the stadium to more than €200,000 following a grant of €111,500 in 2017. It is a great result.
Tuam Stadium is the centre of football in Galway and the fantastic atmosphere generated in the recent County final and replay, along with the Connaught championship match against Ballintubber, underlines its importance.
These grants are vital in order to ensure we have the best facilities possible to host intercounty matches. I am delighted to have been involved in securing this public funding for the stadium.
The allocation of €89,717 by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport will be used for ongoing works in upgrading the facilities.
The re-roofing of the stand is being progressed and I want to acknowledge the support for this part of the project from the late Joe O’Toole. Likewise, I acknowledge the generosity of the Varden family in providing the seating for the new terraces.
DAFTS, the fundraising committee, has been instrumental in raising hundreds of thousands of euro for the project.
I also want to pay tribute to the work of the Tuam Stadium Committee and all the volunteers who do so much to keep the stadium looking so well.
