I am very happy to confirm that the final phase of the Kiltiernan Flood Relief Scheme can now proceed after all landowners along the section from Kiltiernan to Ballinderreen signed agreements to facilitate the work.
Kiltiernan National School has flooded in the past and is still under threat but the flood relief scheme is designed to alleviate the problem.
I met all the landowners and they are very anxious to have the works progress.
Galway County Council carried out some of the works on the Ballinderreen section, while the Office of Public Works provided funding under the Minor Works Scheme.
I want to acknowledge the support and generosity of the landowners who have the local knowledge and are working with council’s engineers.
The works, when completed, will provide comfort to the school, staff, students, Board of Management and the community who have suffered such devastation from flooding in the past.
