Great St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Sofia

Great St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Sofia on Sunday, accompanied by Ireland’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, Michael Forbes. First event was the presentation and blessing of the shamrock at the Church of the Assumption with the Papal Nuncio Anselmo Pecorari. We then visited the MWAH Irish restaurant and bar owned by chef Tom Broaders for a special St Patrick’s Day cake. Later in the day I attended the greening of the National Library and the Palace of Culture. A very special day, not least because of the tremendous success of Corofin in Croke Park to win their second successive All Ireland Club title. Special mention also for St Thomas’s who also flew the flag for Galway at headquarters today but who found Ballyhale Shamrocks one too good. Busy day ahead tomorrow with a series of meetings with my Bulgarian ministerial counterparts.
