Galway library network has been allocated €28,698 by the Department of Rural and Community Development towards the provision of sensory facilities around the county.
I am delighted that my Department is supporting libraries in this way.
The grant will cover a variety of facilities for people with sensory impairments, special educational needs and other learning differences, including those on the Autism spectrum.
The funding will provide for sensory spaces in ten library branches, lighting in Tuam and Killimor, sensory boxes, a sensory room at Westside Library and JAM – Just A Minute – Cards to help those with a learning disability with public interactions.
The total grant will be €38,264 to include a contribution from the Galway Library Service.
I acknowledge the support of my ministerial colleague Michael Ring TD for all library services.
