I am delighted that a range of Galway East heritage projects have been allocated a total of €52,500 in funding under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme for 2020.
Our built heritage is an important resource both for our own communities and for tourism.
It is essential that we continue to invest in buildings that have a unique historical and architectural value.
The projects to benefit are located as follows: Tavanagh, Cummer, Tuam; Main Street, Loughrea; Cahermorris, Corrandulla; Annagh East, Corrandulla; Cloonboo, Corrandulla; Ballyglass, Ardrahan; Tonroe, Ardrahan; Moorefield House, Eyrecourt; St Thomas Church, Moyard; St Brendan’s Church, Annaghdown; Cregboy, Doorus, Kinvara; and Moat, Killimor.
The awards by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht are part of a national allocation worth more than €4.3 million for 449 built heritage and historic structure projects.
The scheme supports labour-intensive small scale conservation projects and has the added benefit of providing employment for local people working in conservation, traditional skills and construction.
