Seven Galway East agricultural shows are set to benefit from a €600,000 fund from the Department of Rural and Community Development.
The shows approved for funding are Ardrahan, Athenry, Corrandulla, Gort, Glenamaddy, Ballinasloe and Claregalway,
Other county agricultural shows approved include Galway, Ballyconneely Performance Show, Ballyconneely Agri Show, Carraroe, Clifden Connemara Pony Show, Connemara Charity Show and Cashel.
I am delighted that these Galway shows will benefit from around €5,000 in funding each from my Department.
These shows are important landmarks for the farming community and attract a huge amount of interest among local people and tourists, providing a welcome boost for local economies.
They are great events with many of them offering a whole range of additional activities, including cookery, crafts, demonstrations and competitions.
I particularly want to acknowledge the efforts of all the volunteers who do so much during the year to make these shows happen.
Approximately 120 shows nationally will be supported by the funding, which will be administered by the Irish Shows Association (ISA). All shows supported are members of the ISA.
