Animal welfare organisations in Galway East are to receive €63,500 in funding from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
I am delighted that our local animal welfare organisations are being supported in this way.
The Government is committed to the cause of animal welfare and the national award of €2,906,000 to 106 organisations across the country represents a record allocation of funding.
The awards in Galway East are €40,000 for Galway SPCA, Heathlawn, Killimor; €12,000 for Pro Animale Ireland CLG, Flesk, Woodford; €4,000 for Fellenberg Foundation Ireland Ltd, Flesk, Woodford; and €7,500 for Forgotten Horses Ireland, Kinvara.
In terms of my own commitment to animal welfare, my department, the Department of Rural and Community Development, is undertaking a review of the regulations around Dog Breeding Establishments, which should be progressed in early 2020.
