Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has been informed by Galway County Council that it is to commence the final stage of the Kiltiernan Flood Relief Scheme in the coming weeks.
Kiltiernan National School suffered severe flooding in 2009 and funding was received for food relief works from Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the Office of Public Works.
Minister Canney said: “Works on the Ballinderreen section of the scheme commenced last year.
“The Kiltiernan section is now proceeding following agreement with the landowners.
“I expect the works to start in the coming weeks and to be completed over the summer.”
“This is very welcome news for the school, teachers, pupils and parents.
“I want to acknowledge the co-operation of the farmers and the efforts of the council engineers in getting this project to completion.”
