East Galway TD Seán Canney has said that equal treatment is needed for all citizens on the issue of water charges.
Deputy Canney has written to the recently-appointed Minister for Housing and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy TD requesting that group water scheme householders are treated equally to citizens on public water supplies.
Deputy Canney has called on the Minister to ensure that a revised subsidy to group water schemes is put in place. This revised subsidy should reflect the recent decision to abolish water charges on public water supplies. ‘It should ensure that the same set of charges apply to group water scheme customers. The basic principle of equality for all citizens needs to be protected,’ concluded Deputy Canney.
