I am taking to task the Department of Education over the construction of a footbridge which threatens to significantly delay the opening of the new Clarin College in Athenry.
The footbridge over the Clarin River was in the planning permission for the college.
It should have been part of the €20 million contract for construction of the college but it was omitted.
The Department of Education building unit has been sitting on its hands over this issue for two years.
The college building is near completion but now because of this oversight, a tendering process will have to be undertaken which could take a number of months.
This is completely unacceptable. I am calling on the Department to expedite the opening of the college as quickly as possible.
