Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has received confirmation from Galway County Council that the construction of Dunkellin Bridge can proceed.
The contractor has now started back on site and the way is clear for the bridge to be completed and the road to be re-opened.
Minister Canney said: “I have received confirmation from the Office of Public Works that it is satisfied with the proposed design. Funding is available so there are no other obstacles to the project moving ahead.
“I am now urging all involved to ensure the works are completed as quickly as possible.”
The bridge collapsed last year while it was undergoing works, which led to road closures and diversions causing major disruption to local families.
