I have received confirmation that children are waiting up to 24 months for an MRI scan.
There are two categories of waiting times for children waiting MRI scans. There are patients classed as General Anaesthetic (GA) and Non-General Anaesthetic (NGA).
“There are 39 children classed as urgent, waiting 10 months for an MRI and there are 23 children on the Non-GA. In total there are 146 children awaiting MRI scans”.
“This is alarming that our health services are failing children. It is no doubt very worrying for parents of children who are assessed as being urgent and have to wait so long for what is a common diagnostic procedure”.
“We need to invest in infrastructure, equipment and resources to ensure delivery of services in reasonable time frames”.
