A new round of funding to support hundreds of schools, community groups and clubs with projects on climate action and diversity has been launched by my department, the Department of Communications, Climate Action and the Environment.
The Community Environment Action Fund, which is worth nearly €1 million, is jointly financed with matched contributions of €460,0000 from the Department and local authorities.
The fund aims to support groups across the country. It is important that Galway organisations with ideas on climate action and biodiversity get their applications in early.
I am hugely impressed with how many people are embracing the challenges of climate change and we want to support them in that.
Climate change affects everyone and we need practical responses at community and school level to make the difference required.
The Community Environment Action Fund supported 850 small scale projects in 2018. The fund has in the past supported a range of initiatives, including community gardens, allotments, composting schemes, rainwater harvesting, educational projects and exhibitions.
My colleague, the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment Richard Bruton, decided that this year’s funding should focus on climate action and biodiversity.
Groups seeking funding should apply to their local authority by 5pm on September 27. Further information is available on the Department’s website www.dccae.gov.ie
