Galway East TD Seán Canney has welcomed the progress being made on the Gort Lowlands Flood Relief Scheme.
‘The tender for the Engineering Consultants has concluded and a preferred tender has been identified.
‘Galway County Council will now issue including the “letter of Intent” to appoint the successful consultant.
‘The Environmental Consultants tenders are also submitted and the evaluation process is ongoing. I expect that the Environmental Consultant will also be appointed prior to Christmas.
‘Having instigated this Flood Relief Scheme when I was Minister for The Office of Public Works, I am pleased that progress on the design is moving forward.
‘The Scheme is unique and there are many issues to be addressed.
‘It is my intention to continue to keep pressure on so that we can implement a fully cohesive plan to deal with flooding in Gort Lowlands once and for all. Gort and South Galway have suffered many years of flooding and the people deserve to see progress
