Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has welcomed the re-opening of Dunkellin Bridge after significant repair works.
The bridge had been closed since collapsing last year.
Minister Canney said: “I am delighted that the bridge has reopened. Its closure after it collapsed while works were being carried out has caused considerable difficulty for people living in the area with road closures and major diversions.
“I visited the bridge with Cllr Geraldine Donohue and we kept in close contact with Galway County Council and the Office of Public Works to ensure the work was carried out as quickly as possible.
“It is great to see traffic flowing over the bridge again.”
Dunkellin bridge received €420,000 from the Department of Transport for improvement works this year as part of Galway County’s €29 million allocation for regional and rural roads.
The Dunkellin flood relief scheme is also progressing towards completion.
