Approval is issuing to Galway County Council this week to proceed with three minor works projects to alleviate flooding, a fact welcomed by Galway East TD Seán Canney, Minister of State for OPW and Flood Relief.
‘OPW is this week approving funding to Galway County Council for three projects to alleviate flooding. €76,000 has been allocated for works at Roo Kinvara, which will include a culvert upgrade, channel improvements and environmental reports. €11,700 has been allocated to clean and maintain sections of an open channel at Parkacurry, Monivea, as well as the installation of drainage pipes and gullies and the creation of two new headwalls and trash screens. A further €14,220 has been allocated to extend a pipe across the N83 at Beagh, Tuam.
‘Minor works projects such as these three are key in terms of dealing with localised flooding problems. While large scale drainage projects have to be undertaken in various areas across county Galway, in many cases targeted minor works can alleviate flooding flashpoints and allow better outflow of water following flash flooding episodes. I will continue to work with both OPW and various local authorities to ensure that minor works are carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible.’
