Galway health projects are to benefit from a €22 million fund under the Sláintecare Integration programme.
In the heart failure category, successful projects included community cardiac diagnostics for Galway University Hospital and improvement of patient outcomes for Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe and Primary Care in Galway.
Other projects receiving funding include: A podiatry-led pathway for the provision of footwear and orthotics for diabetic care in Galway, Roscommon and Mayo Community Health Organisation (CHO); telemedicine for Cystic Fibrosis for Galway University Hospital; and individual placement and support for mental health services for Galway, Mayo and Roscommon CHO.
Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney said: “These are very welcome initiatives under the Sláintecare Integration Fund.
“We need to encourage innovative thinking to bring about change in our healthcare services.
“I am particularly pleased to see the importance of working in partnership being emphasised in these projects and I want to congratulate them all on achieving funding.
“I am also delighted to see national organisations which do such great work in Galway East communities, such as the Men’s Sheds, also receiving funding for their projects.
“Another exciting national project to benefit is Alone BConnect which aims to facilitate older people staying healthier for longer in their homes by combining technology with expanded community services.”
Partners in the projects range from hospitals, hospital groups, Community Health Organisations, Community and Voluntary Organisations, universities and Primary Care Centres.
Many of the projects will be delivered as partnerships between hospitals and CHOs, or hospitals and community organisations, highlighting the focus on integrating care and shifting care into the community.
