I have received confirmation from Galway County Council that they will be installing lighting to the Dunmore Abbey in conjunction with the Office of Public Works.
The Abbey is a very important historical building and in my time as Minister for the Office of Public Works, I initiated remedial works to protect the Abbey which has been carried by the OPW. As part of the remedial works, the OPW agreed to install lighting to show case the Abbey especially at nighttime.
“I want to acknowledge the honouring of that commitment by the OPW and the support of Galway County Council in bringing the project to this stage. I understand that the works to install the lighting will be carried out over the coming months and will be in place prior to the winter.
I also acknowledge the support and commitment of David McDonagh and the Dunmore Tidy Towns Committee over the years who showed great patience and understanding during the entire process”.
