Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney is urging community groups and organisations to apply for funding under Galway County Council’s Climate Action Support Scheme.
The County Council’s objective is based on three criteria, namely to support action, planning and engagement around Climate Action.
Minister Canney said: “Community groups have a whole range of options for applying for funding. Climate Action requires changes and improvements on many fronts and I would urge our local organisations to use this opportunity to join the national drive towards greater energy efficiency and the reduction of carbon emissions.
“There’s a narrow window left for applications, which must be submitted this week.”
Funding opportunities include minor works grants for not-for-profit organisations towards energy efficiency measures at their facilities, such as LED lighting, heating control upgrades, draught proofing, insulation and new external doors.
There are also supports for building energy assessments under the Community Energy Audit Scheme, Community Groups affiliated to the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland provided there is a clear purpose for funding, community water bottle filling stations, climate awareness events, biodiversity projects, Tidy Towns climate friendly initiatives, school climate projects, environmental master plans and cultural activities to raise climate action awareness.
Application forms can be downloaded from http://www.galway.ie/en/services/environment/climatechange/ .
The closing date for the receipt of forms is 4pm Friday July 5.
