The IDA site at Athenry should be ready and fully serviced so that the town can reap a jobs dividend from foreign direct investment, Galway East TD and Minister of State Seán Canney has stated.
Minister Canney said the IDA site was “pivotal” for job creation.
He added: “I have had discussions with the IDA and Galway County Council and I have encouraged both of them to ensure that the necessary infrastructure is in place.
“Following the acquisition of land in Athenry, the IDA and the County Council have recently completed the access road off the motorway to the site.
“Now that the upgrade of the Wastewater Treatment Plant has been completed, the next phase of work is to ensure that an adequate water supply and storage capacity is available.
“Athenry has experienced major improvements to its roads, schools and wastewater treatment plant.
“A constant water supply with an adequate reservoir is vital to attract Med Tech, Pharma and other industries to the town.
“I continue to work with all the relevant agencies and Government departments to ensure that Athenry reaches its full potential.”
