East Galway TD Seán Canney has outlined his concerns to Bank of Ireland management following reports that the bank is to reduce further its services in rural towns.
‘The situation is gravely worrying for many business people in the towns concerned and is also of concern to elderly people. The bank officials listened to my concerns and suggestions to improve services. They are to look at an option that can be put into place to help ease the worries of those concerned. Rural towns need to have the support of financial institutions, otherwise there will be a negative impact on businesses.’
Deputy Canney has welcomed the meeting, which took place in Dublin, as a first positive step in finding solutions to the issues involved.
