Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has called on the IDA and Galway County Council to open the new link road off the roundabout through the IDA lands in Athenry to allow access to the Presentation College.
The works were carried out to coincide with the opening of the new school.
Minister Canney said: “The school opened its doors in March but the road has not yet opened. This is causing a huge amount of congestion each morning and evening at the Raheen Woods entrance.
“Athenry is a busy town and with more than 1,000 students and staff arriving at the same time there can be terrible traffic congestion as everyone tries to access the school.
“It is not fair on the school, staff, parents, students and residents.”
Minister Canney said he had received assurances from Galway County Council that the new section of road would open shortly.
“I am encouraging the council to expedite the opening as a matter of urgency,” he added.
