Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has announced that two Galway East walking trail projects have been allocated more than €285,000 in funding.
Minister Canney said; “The Loughrea Walks project is to receive €100,000 under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) for phase two of the redevelopment of the moat walks around the town.
“This follows a €100,000 allocation under the ORIS last year by my department, the Department of Rural and Community Development, for phase one, which has now been completed.
“The Lackagh/Knockdoemore Walking Trail Project is to receive €185,546 towards the development of a walking trail linking the sports facilities of Knockdoemore to the village of Lackagh.
“This is a unique project, which shows what can be achieved when groups work together to deliver for their communities.
“I am delighted that both projects have been successful and will be delivered this year under measure three of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
“I acknowledge the work of the voluntary groups involved and the support of Galway County Council for these projects.
“I worked closely with Deputy Noel Grealish on the Lackagh project and I acknowledge the generosity of Frank Kearney and his family in ensuring that land was available to bring that project to fruition.”
