Flood relief funding for Sliabh Carran Housing Estate in Gort

I have received confirmation from the Office of Public Works that they are allocating €108,000 to Galway County Council to carry out flood relief measures at Sliabh Carran in Gort. Galway County Council will be carrying out the works in the coming months. Sliabh Carran housing estate was the location of serious flooding in 2009 and this money will provide the basis for solving this long running saga.
‘When the flood works are complete the way will be paved for all other works to be carried out in the estate to bring it to a standard for taking in charge. I want to acknowledge the work of the local County Councillors, Council officials the Office of Public Works and the residents for all of their efforts with this project. I am also delighted that the Office of Public Works have responded positively to my representation on this matter. I expect Galway County Council to commence the works shortly and this will bring much relief to the residents who have suffered so much flooding in the past’.
