I have received confirmation from the HSE that the National Clinical Programme for the treatment of Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has not yet been extended to the Community Health West.
Furthermore, the HSE cannot advise me as to when this service will be put in place. This is typical of announcing a National Plan but failing in the implementation of it and leaving the West without parity of service.
This is leaving patients with no option but to travel to Dublin for treatment and consultations placing a huge burden on families.
It is time that the HSE treated all citizens with respect and at least have a plan that is deliverable with timelines, so we know what to expect and when to expect the services to be in place.
We have a fine Primary Care Unit located in Tuam with space to provide the service and is ideally located to serve the needs of Galway, Mayo and Roscommon and the West.
I look forward to further engagement with the HSE on this issue.
