I have called on the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection to re-introduce weekly payments of Social Protection payments
‘This move will rejuvenate the Post Office network, as there is a reduction on people coming into the Post Office’
The move to paying out every two weeks was introduced as a measure to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Post Offices are now equipped to deal with the restrictions and the risk is greatly reduced.
‘There is also ongoing confusion amongst customers in relation to the dates of payments and people are experiencing difficulties in managing their finances’.
Welfare payments account for 30% of all transactions in Post Offices and bring in a further 20% in spin off business whilst the customer is in the Post Office.
‘We need to protect the Post Office network especially in rural Ireland’.
