The budget for disability does not address the extra cost of living with a disability.
“In 2019, the Indecon International Consultants were commissioned by Government to carry out research into the cost of disability in Ireland. The report established that individuals in Ireland living with a disability incur an additional living cost of between €8,700 and €12.300 per year.
The Government have acknowledged that disabled people live with many extra costs. However, the “once of” payment in the budget is very disappointing and there must be a reasonable annual payment.
As a member of the Disability Matters Committee, I will continue to highlight the additional cost for disabled people and hopefully over time we will see progression”.
