BIG DAY FOR MEELICK WEIR
Great craic in Meelick today for the turning of the sod for the refurbishment of the Weir across the Shannon. Big congratulations to Charlie Killeen and all those that have campaigned for so long to get this work done. It will be a great day when the communities of Meelick in County Galway and Lusmagh in County Offaly are linked again by the Weir walkway. The whole area is full of history with the Victoria Lock, Meelick Church, the Red Bridge and the two Martello Towers. The project will cost in the region of €3 million and I hope that I have helped in some way to bring it to fruition. It will be a major tourist amenity for the Meelick and Eyrecourt area. Thanks to Eanna Rowe, Regional Manager of Waterways Ireland, for his team’s support for the project.
