County Development Plans and Local Area Plans need to designate the catchment area close to train stations in our towns as priority areas for development of residential areas.

It is good planning to develop priority residential zones adjacent to train stations.

“This type of planning will provide for more connectivity, reduce the reliance on the car and realise the full potential for the rail network”.

“The trains station locations also require park and ride facilities to provide secure parking an encourage people to use the train”.

Towns like Ballinasloe, Woodlawn, Attymon on the Dublin line and Athenry and Gort on the Western Rail Corridor could all benefit from this type of initiative”

“If Climate Action is to be effective, we need to ensure people live near public transport to ensure full use of the transport service”.
