I have received confirmation from the Minister for Education, Norma Foley TD that the proposal to amalgamate Athenry Boys NS and Athenry Girls NS is progressing.

The Minister has confirmed that the Patron/Trustees of the schools have agreed to an amalgamation of both schools.

“The next stage in the process is the development of a plan for a new school for the new entity. It is envisaged that additional land will be required for the new national school campus and the process to acquire this land is currently in train.

The Minister has also confirmed that the department is currently developing a project brief for the school”.

“I welcome this progress in ensuring that the amalgamation process continues to ensure that Athenry will have modern educational facilities in which to deliver primary education”.

“I commend the Patron/Trustees for their collaboration with the schools Board of Management, parents and students”.
